My friend, Ellen, has written another provocative post; this time, on exchanging the Thou for an it in worship.  She contends that in our attempt to get our theology correct (a right way of thinking about God) we have sacrificed a deeper orthodoxy (a right way of expressing God).  Her post echoes some of what I’m reading lately in Eugene Peterson’s “The Jesus Way”.  Alarmed by the consumer mentality that has crept into our churches Peterson calls for a complete renovation of our imagination (the way we look at things) in order to extract ourselves from this insidious condition and make our way back to the Jesus way.

I highly recommend both Peterson’s “Jesus Way” and Ellen’s post as food for thought.

Haven’t gotten around to reading them yet, but hope to. Thank you so much for your commet on my blog and your blessngs. I’ve often pondered the thought of the Leadership resistence that you speak of and have wondered if it is in my church. Hard to tell at times. Sometimes I get really good feedback, but then if I pry to deep I’ll get the silent treatment. Kind of makes me wonder, but I have to keep trusting God. I have great respect for my pastor, I just don’t know where the leadership boards stand. I’ve often thought of joining the leadership board, but haven’t felt God call me to it in a distinct way, and I don’t want to jump the gun on God, if ya know what I mean. I think right now, it’s like you say, God is sovereign and He wants us to trust Him that it’s all gonna work out. He has a plan, and I’ve told Him many times, If this church is not where you want me, open a door and kick me through it. So far, I’m still here, growing and learning. I’ll try to keep you posted. If you have any good ideas of how to break through some of the resistance I’m all ears! Blessings to you and your ministry also, May God be glorified and greatly bless you for your heart and hard work. Your sister in Christ, Robin

Hey Robin! You have actually given me an idea. My board has asked me for some time now to begin writing in this area but as we don’t yet have an operations director my plate is full with administrative stuff. Anyway, maybe I can sue this blog as a forum to float a few of my ideas as I am able and break down a few seminars I teach in churches on how to care for people (especially our leaders).
